I don't do a lot of sewing anymore, as my children are grown. When I need material, thread or other supplies, I wait for a coupon to my local sewing store like Joanne's or purchase on Black Friday, which is the day after Thanksgiving. Last year, I went to a garage sale and bought a paper bag of cloth for 1.00 and it would have cost me a lot of cash, if I had purchased it at the store.

yeah i do that now. i mean i have been dabbling in the sewing game for almost a year now. i have begun making little things like skirts for my daughter, and house shirts for my son. little things for me for the house. throw pillows...hmmm. i like the sound of that, bc we do alot of sitting on the floor, so that may be practical as well. i also found a link for sewing dolls, in case anyone is interested. theylook like cabbage patch dolls without the plastic heads though. i havent tried yet, but soon.

I'm a beginner, as well. I received a sewing machine for Christmas and I haven't even removed it from the box. I have purchased fabric to make curtains and throw pillows for my daughter's room, but I'm just so intimidated.
I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone posts any helpful tips!
