I started playing the piano at the of age 7. All my life I conditioned myself that I'll take up music and become a musician as a pianist... When I graduated from highschool I took up conservatory music. But in the middle of my college life I lost interest. I got depressed, frustrated and my heart for music died. I finished my degree for the sake of my parents wishes. Until now I'm still struggling to find my way back in playing the piano. DO you think I would find or revive my love in playing the Piano? Everywhere I go It hunts me, that I should play again but my heart is gone.

I play guitar and write songs, but I haven't seriously written a song for three years, nor played the guitar much. It is Ok to take a break from music, and do other things. But you have a gift for it, and if you don't return to it, you will regret it. In my opinion, you should approach it from a different perspective, in a freshly creative way. Expand your musical horizons to other music forms, perhaps more popular ones; many classically trained musicians have gravitated towards Pop; perhaps start writing; think of composing, arranging. My advice is: don't let it die; or you will regret it one day. Good luck, and warmest wishes.

i'm sure you would find your way back. You just need a diversion at this time. What exactly do you want to do right now? Why should you go for it? Sometimes we don't feel the value of one thing until it is taken away from us. My wish for you is that you find true happiness in what you want to do and maybe eventually you will go back to playing the piano when your heart is filled with joy.

If you love playing the piano then yes you should go back to playing the piano. Maybe once you start back up again it just may come back into your heart again. That is such a sad story. I wish you the best of luck in which you choice to do. :)

My joy from playing piano is the freedom of expressing yourself. I do enjoy playing other composer's pieces when I'm in certain moods, but much of the time I play it for fun. Next time you sit at the piano, don't concentrate on being a technically perfect pianist (it sounds like you are of high standard from your post anyway), but concentrate on playing how you feel. If you're angry play something angry, if you're feeling down, play that. The joy of being a musician is projecting your own emotions on an instrument, not just succeeding through technical training. I spent 4 years with a piano teacher who gave me music which I got no joy from playing. Now I'm with another teacher who composes for film and television, and it's a really freeing feeling being able to play something that's descriptive of you at that moment.
(Incidentally, if you like jazz, dave grusin's 'memphis stomp' is a really fun peice for me at the moment, but play wherever your emotions take you)
I hope you find the joy of music again.

Hello.
If you really really love playing the piano, you'll get back to it someday. I have a dream too. I want to become a musician someday. I know how to play the piano but i'm not very good at it (not as good as the composers like yiruma, etc). I learned playing it since i was high school with no formal music school. Since then, I realized that I wanted to play some more and maybe become a musician someday. I'm now a college student and my plan after school is to make money so i can enroll in a music school and improve my piano skills. I hope you find your way back to playing the piano :D
