Is the government forcing us to much to live a healthy lifestyle?

In schools children can't even get an order of fries instead they get a salad. and pizza on whole wheat crust. the government is forcing fast food restaurants to eliminate trans fats in there food. not alowing children to bring snacks in there lunch cans. why are we allowing so much control on everything we do? we pay taxes and should be able to eat what we want. right?
does anybody else have an opinion on this?

The government does not do enough. Americans are slowly killing themselves by over-eating and eating the wrong foods and I do not see how you think it is the government trying to control this because it is not. It is and has always been parents and concerned citizens making the difference the goverment says eat, get fat and be merry. This is a problem....

Good idea but their motivation is questionable. They are frankly more concerned about future health care costs of generation after generation becoming increasingly unhealthy. However, reducing it to the individual, I think its great - the right to choose is important but most children lack the maturity to make healthy choices over less healthy options. Are there not worse things to force on you? Like a war.

In my state, we have all these corny commercials of the Gov working out. Supposedly, according to him there are no jobs here because employers don't wanna pay the insurance.
He's not much of a student of state gov/history though because we have an inventory tax that did a great deal of chasing out companies...
Oh well, if everyone listens to him then we will all be fit while we are standing in the unemployment line.
