That was the question I had when I saw the movie on cable only last night. I kept staring at him, and had really 2nd thoughts about it. So, now I searched for the cast and there it was confirmed that Jay Adams in the movie Lords of Dogtown was portrayed by Emile Hirsch.. but i think he does look like Leonardo.. Whether that's a complement to either of them for the other, I don't know, and I really don't care...
I liked the movie! And it's amusing to learn that the real people portrayed, the Z-boys, specifically Jay, Stacy, and Tony, actually had cameo appearances in the movie. And I also got intrigued as to what happened to the real Skip. There were footnotes as to what happened to the real Z-boys but no update on Skip...

I heard quite a lot about the movie back in 2005, but didn't go see it. Just quite recently i downloaded the movie and watched it on my pc. And i liked the movie, it became one of my favorite movies.
Because i liked the movie very much that after watching it i researched about the actual characters that the movie portrayed. About the Zephyr, Tony, Stacy, Jay, etc. and i found that most skaters who knew the actual story of the zephyr or ppl who have watched the original documentary "Dogtown and Z-Boys" dont very much favor the movie. I had become this way too, after searching on the net about it. I think the real Jay Adams was so not fairly portrayed. And Stacy (who wrote the script of this movie) looked like he was banging his own drum in this movie.
Try go to JuiceMagazine.com or Z-Boys.com, compare the movie to the real story. You'd understand what i'm saying.
(Anyway, i was thinking was it leornardo too when i first saw the movie poster! lol.)

Yeah, exactly! If they did not use the real persons' name on the movie and let it just be fictional, maybe people would accept the movie better.
but still, i liked the movie. heath ledger was superb there huh? :D

oh, okay..
but assuming how far the movie is from the real story, do you still like the flow of the movie? i guess, looking at it not as a docu-film rather just seeing it as inspired by the Z-boys.. probably they should have just not used the names of the real people...

No, Justin Timberlake was never, in any way, a part of that movie.
