We all make spelling mistakes (or typos) .. one thing MyLOt do advocate is that all people from all walks of life should be able to come and post .. but I do make every effort to read through and correct any spelling mistakes before I post .. but still the odd blooper gets through ...
I would very much appreciate if there was a spell check function though .. I have Fibromyalgia Syndrome and when I get fatigued (which is often) my spelling simply goes out the window and I often don't see my mistakes either .. so I need to type out my replies where I can use a spell check and then copy and paste into here ..
Having an on board spell checker would be a vast improvement and would really help folks where English is not their first language

I've spotted 6 mistakes in your comments, on this page alone! Are you being sardonic? A good discussion, none the less. Thanks.

You seem unaware that English is not a language set in concrete. I am English, and English teacher, and tend to use what is called 'high English', but do not expect everyone acroos the globe to do so. Many answers on myLot come from countries where English is not the first language, and mistakes can be made accordingly, yet I feel it is wonderful that these people are joining in discussions, and educating me on a global view of issues, in my own tongue. My Indonesian, Malay, Japanese etc is certainly not good enough for me to attempt to do the same back.
Also, would you ban all Americans? After colour is not spelt color in my classroom! Should civilisation have an 's' or a 'z'?
On a final point, my English is perfect, but my typing is lousy, would you wish me not to share my wide range of knowledge and life-experience with others?
No-one is perfect, and anyone who actually attempts to properly express an opinion should be welcomed. We, who are lucky enough to be highly proficient in English, should put in the effort to understand these slight errors, not judge people by them!

Just for info, I usually try to correct my typographical errors, at the preview stage, but have left them in this time, as a sign of solidarity!

i dont think you should do it on purpose, but I know I am not the best speller in the world. If I make a mistake and notice it, i do go back and change it.

you cant really say that spelling mistakes should not be allowed on mylot because there are so many users that dont speak english as their first language and cant spell or always speak correct english.
there are also people whose first language is english and didnt finish school or werent taught very well as children and its not entirely their fault as it is hard to break old habits..and some also have learning difficulties
and yes many people do typing mistakes (typos) and dont realize it before they post.
so it really has to be allowed...besides it would be too hard a thing to police.

myLot has already stated in its guidelines( if you cared to read them) that people from all sections and of all nationalities are welcome here. typing fast does increase the chances of making spelling errors, but one always has a preview option. it is the view or opinion we should take into account, not the spellings. it can be annoying at times to read a poorly spelt post.....but if you get the meaning, the purpose is served.
