Mahatma Gandhi had no othere means except to divide India and Pakistan. The circumstances at that time were such that the partition was the only solution. India should not have been divided on religious lines. The present issues between India and Pakistan have become very complicated. Your arguments holds good, because of the problems between two countries.

I do agree with you. The partition being based on religious lines was the mistake. Thats why I believe a different approach & solution should have been sought.

Mahatma Gandhi has not taken the correct step to divide indo - pak into two parts.Particition is the right thing but the bad thing is that he said that those muslims who wants to remain in India should remain in India. The best way is that all the Muslims were through into Pak.

both hindu and muslims have fought for freedom of india andit was wrong to divide india into india and pakistan. it was all politicians who created a need for this partition as they wanted to be in power. they convinced gandhiji that if they divide the country then only it will be good. i feel if they would have not divided the country then india would never have religion problems. its a bad mark in indian history.

I think it was a mistake splitting a country into two. But given the scenario at that time it was probably inevitable & unavoidable for him. I still believe he should have tried to find other means or a different solution. Today we are pointing fingers at each other when we should have actually been in the same house hugging each other.

To my knowledge people who surrounded Mahatma were the ones responsible for forcing him into accepting the partition. Political bickering in Congress started way before that. It was the reason why Mohamed Ali Jinnah decided that as a muslim, he could never dream to get the importance he thought he deserved. That's what made him root adamantly for a separate muslim country as he realised that in that event he would definitely become the premier of the new country without challenge. So we have to blame partly the political aspirations of Jinnah and the then congress leaders only for partition. All said and done, the real culprits were the british who by then have successfully sowed the seeds of hatred between hindus and muslims to suit their political agenda, starting from the division of Bengal. Unfortunately, it continues even today. We have conveniently forgotten that we had coexisted for many centuries before the british arrived.
