When we think of dogs, we think of an intelligent, protective and friendly creature. But, given an opportunity, would you ever leave your kid in a dog's custody. Is it safe to leave your kid attended by a dog even if you are very confident of your pet's training and skills?

It is never really safe to leave a young child alone with a animal not because they are bad just because both are unpredictable. If a child was to hurt or startle a dog they might react before thinking or hurt the child simply by knocking it over and other ways . Some dogs might be trust worthy alone with small children but as a genral rule it is better not to pluss children need watched anyway .

Well it depends a lot on the age of the kid. If you are talking under 6 year old then no they shouldn't be left alone at all. Now if you are talking a 14 year old that is a different story. They should be able to stay home alone with a pet dog. I wouldn't have a problem with a teenager being with a pet dog at all. If they can't be then there is either a problem with the pet or with the kid.

It depends on the child, and on the dog. If the dog and kid were really good and new eachother, then I would not have a problem with it. But if the dog got nervous or upset by children, and the child did not know how to nicely hand the dog, Of course not. Both can be safe for the right situations. I was 6 years old and allowed to play with my Old English Sheepdog, there was times my dog suddenly grew faster than me knocked me over by mistake, or accidently broke skin with a playful nip, however she was never a bad dog, unless you were bad to her or me, she'd growl at you. The worse she would do is tear off the sleeve or your shirt or coat... or take your show off and throw it in the mud. ... So if a Dog is like mine was, and the child was good with animals. I would have no problem leaving a child with them. - DNatureofDTrain
