folder - renaming foldr with con

1.create an empty folder anywhere in ur PC. 2.remane it with "con"..(without ""). 3.see what happens to the name of the folder. Do sedn ur replies. worked in windows xp professional.didnot try in other OS.

In windows the folder name and the special system variables are sharing the the same interface, so when you create a folder the system variable name it will consider that that folder already exist!! these special system variables are available irrespective of path. you cannot create a folder name with this names also: CON,NUL,COM1,COM2,COM3,LPT1,LPT2,LPT3,COM1 to COM9 and LPT1 to LPT9. COM1 means serial port 1, LPT1 means parralel port 1.

this has something to do back in ms-dos days. well actually, its not just "con". there are also others like "lpt1" to "ltp9", "com1" to "com9", "nul", "aux", and "prn". these are reserved device names by the windows itself. that is the reason why you cannot use them as file or folder names.

Well isn't that odd ... I hadn't known about that before. It won't let it be named that and immediately falls back to the default "new folder" title. That's strange .. I wonder why it does that.
