Star ratings are based on what your reputation is on myLot as seen by the other users. This means that when you receive a best response for a discussion you posted in or got a + in rating that means you star goes up, and when you get a - it goes down. They use some algorithm that they won't release so we have no way of knowing how they calculate the star rating based on your responses, maybe length, and how many positive ratings you receive.

If myLot releases the algorithm then people can abuse they system because they will know exactly how the rating is calculated. This is the same reason myLot won't release the algorithm they use to calculate your earnings. If you knew then you would do things to increase your ratings and try and cheat the system. Even though myLot basically told us how to increase our ratings and how to increase our earnings, the simplest way is quality posts.

there is no need to worry about this
star rating . it does not affect our
earnings . if we donot login for a day
then it lowers . after a day of activity
it can increase .
soon I will be offline upto March 2007 .
My star rating may decrease to 1 or 0 .
I will not worry about it !

None of us knows exactly how MyLot calculates the star ratings, and it seems unfair that the rating would drop because you missed one day. I think that we have to be patient and just see how this thing goes after a few weeks- it's still to new to figure out. If the rating drops, however, your earnings are not affected- so don't worry too much about it. The way I understand it, the rating is based on how other users rate your responses; maybe if you weren't here for a day and had no responses to rate, the rating dropped. Just keep trying to do a good job, and don't place too much emphasis on the star!

That would not be good if we were to lose star rating just because we missed a day of posting. I was under the impression that it was solely based on the quality of your discussions and responses. I propably won't be able to post this weekend, si it'll be interesting to see if my star rating drops.

I think You lost Your star because You lost Your posts.I just saw today that two posts where I made my replays are deleted by mylot because there was something written what is not by mylot rules. So first look on discussion is it something against rules before You start to replay.

till now it has not happened to me but i think that not accessing will not be the cause of lowering your ranking but the reason behind this could be your posts quality
