I actually wanted to learn german...Does anybody know german here.Can u help me out with some basic phrases and words ?

I visit Germany a lot as my Dad lives there. I can speak quite a bit but I can understand loads. Why not try http://www.travlang.com/languages/ its very good for useful phrases and words. Also http://dict.leo.org/ende?lang=en&lp=ende&search= has a very good German dictionary.

I now learning german on my own. I trying to learn in practice - find penpal and when I want say something in mail, I have to read grammar and dictionary. What's your level? goodluck
