I had a pet monkey as a child. Her name was Ginger, she was the sweetest thing! I don't know how much they cost per year, as I said it was when I was a child. But I know we had to have a exotic animal license to have her along with our other exotic pets. Of course we had the money out for her large cage (about the size of a bedroom) she was only in it at night and when we weren't home. We also had an outside cage for her, vet bills, and the food. the cost of a monkey isn't cheap either!

I don't have a monkey. I have done alot of research on them however. They are not cheap to have by any means. I am considering providing foster care for one. Here is some information, I hope it helps you.
Capuchin monkeys—the kind you see with organ grinders—are more expensive than most monkeys on account of their remarkable intelligence. But most dealers will sell you a baby capuchin for between $5,000 and $7,000.
Monkeys naturally waste food, can become picky in their appetite, refusing once staple or favorite foods. Spilled or dropped food will usually be wasted. The cost of vet care can be high. One emergency can incur a bill of several hundred dollars. Regular health checks are costly, anesthetic gas is expensive as is diagnostic blood work. There is also diapers, toys, and cage to consider in the expenses. If you are considering getting a monkey.. do alot of research first. You may find you're not really up to all it takes.

Wow, that's a real commitment. I guess it makes sense, though. They're so much more complex than a dog or cat, being almost as needy as a human child.
