I have diabetes and when I first began taking my insulin, I found out what a low blood sugar was!! Normal rates are between 80 and 120. Mine usually runs in the 700's but, mine has gone as low as 12 and left me in a coma.Low blood sugars have to be one of the most common, and dreadful things that can happen to a person, with my diet my doctor said I'd experience maybe three a week.I usually have one upon waking in the morning and need to fix it fast.I adjust my morning insulin to try and help and have a teaspoon of cornstarch in some pudding before bed. It's digested so slowly hat it really does helps.Have you experienced low blood sugars? If you do, what's your fastest remedy? Is there anything imparticular that you gravitate towards to curb the distress?

Hi, My mother is a diabetic and there is a long line of diabetics in my family both sides of my family and my mothers her side and on my grandfathers side. So everyone is worried that since I am overweight that I will get it too. I have low blood sugar though and I haven't went into a comma or anything but I have almost blacked out three or four times And it was usually when I am on a diet and not eating alot of carbs or sweets so I have to watch it, it has went down to 19,22,29,35 and I have eaten bananas, pure honey, peanut butter, and a few other things to get it back up in a hurry, I had to quit a job once because I couldn't keep my blood sugar levels up it was a stand up and moving around alot job and no drinking or eating on the job. I worked with my mom and I went to her when I started feeling like i was going to black out and my sugar was really low and I was shaking so bad I had to hold on to stuff to keep me upright and she got me a chair and the boss came out and started hollering at her and telling me I couldn't sit down and my mom went nose to nose with the guy and I'm surprised she didn't get fired.I haven't thought of trying cornstarch in pudding maybe I should give that a try. When not on my diet I drink sweet pop and juices and eat pastas so my blood sugar doesn't bother me as bad except on ocassion when I don't eat most the day.

Wow! good for your mom! Please be careful on the days you don't eat much.I have heard that diabetes in families skips generations, is that the way it is in yours?Thank you for your response, it's unfortunate, but still nice to know I'm not alone!! :)

I am a newbie to this disease and realize the gravity of having it. My glucose levels as of now is in manageable levels.

I have a bad time with low blood sugar. Mine used to be high about 230-270 so my doctor told me to start testing and try to watch my diet. So I did and was testing twice a day. These days most of the time I am right around 100 but I have too many instances of dropping low luckily a friend of mine who is diabetic brought this to my attention or I too would have gone in a coma. Mine was down to 23 and it took us forever to get it back to a normal range. I can tell when mine is dropping sometimes but my symptoms are the same as my paniac attacks so I have to try to differientiate between the two. I have found orange juice works well for me its not too fast but sometimes I need it to go up quick I am forced to drink a coke.
