Why do some people lie so much?

I have a friend who lies about everything. She has lied about everything from being married to being raped by her ex boyfriend. Will anyone ever real know how a liars brain works? i believe their brains are wired differently. Would you agree? Why or why not?

I'm no psychologist or anything , but I think chronic liars have some sort of esteem issues. It's as though they feel the need to make something up because they think the person they really are isn't interesting. it may also be a means to get attention, or some sort of fantasy thing that gives them pleasure -- like acting or something.
