Hire a Lawyer for DMV hearing and after about 5.5 months all he said that he done was write 2 letters. so I told him that I didn 't feel like he was trying to help me and that I no longer wanted him to do anything else. And that I wanted my money back. after a week I called him back and said that I hadn't heard for him. He said that he would have to figure out how much time he had in it. After 2 week I hadn't heard from him. So for 9 days I left messages for him to let me know what he was going to do. The last I talked to his secontary which was 1-2-07, Tuesday. She said that he would send me a letter, I got the letter today, 1-11-07. In the letter He said that he had charged me 220.00 per hour, and had worked 4 hours. He also said that his office contacted me when they got the letter from the DMV. I took the letter to them. He told me and my girlfriend, Debbie who was with me when I hired him that he would charge me 700.00 to handle the case. He akso said that because I 4 DWi's. 1983, 1985, 1987, and 1995. that he had to badgered the DMV to get a hearing date. Thats a lie, DMV wrote and told me I was edgeable for a hearing in 2002. I also gave him that letter.

I'm a lawyer in Canada. A dissatisfied client has many options. They can file a complaint with the Law Society, who will in turn investigate the matter and, if they find the lawyer to be at fault, will discipline him or her. However, if you are simply just unhappy with your bill, you can apply to the courts to have it assessed. The courts here apply guidelines to assess what should be paid for the work that was done. Lawyers normally do not wish to spend time defending their bills unless it is a significant amount of money. You may wish to make some inquiries as to whether similar avenues are available to you in your jurisdiction.
Another option might be simply to offer to settle the bill by paying half immediately as full and final settlement. As they say, money talks. Make sure you get a written release stating that it is full and final settlement.
Hope that helps a little.
