I guess it could cause some problems in the relationship. But in the end we are all just trying to survive no matter who earns the most. I cannot really see the point in faulting the woman if she earns more. But at the same time she should not throw this in the mans face either.

in such instances, i think it's all up to the man. if he has such a huge ego and thinks that the wife should not be earning more than him, then it will spell trouble for the marriage.
personally, i really think it's no big deal who earns more.

If the relationship is strong, then it should not matter unless one of them feels insecure that is. We had a farm for many years and I worked off the farm, so therefore earned more money than my husband did by virtue of the fact that the farm income also had to cover our farm expenses. My salary of course didn't have those expenses, except for fuel.
It never caused any problems at all. I was happy with my job, the money I earned as well as being able to contribute to the family finances. My husband was confident enough in our relationship that it never worried him. In fact he was heard to say more than once "I am a kept man and can do things during the day that they wife cannot because she works". It was said in humour because the statement was so true. :)
