I have been trying to trace my family tree. According to the Cherokee Nation, I must prove my blood line. Is there help out there, without having to pay someone a lot of money to research it for you?? I have to find at least one family member on the Dowes Roll. It is a lot tuffer then I thought. Anyone else tracing your indian heritage??

We tried a few years ago, but when it comes to Cherokee, it's darn near impossible to prove. My blood line came from a female off the trail of tears. She married a man who lived up in the mountains of Kentucky. There are no offical records and we don't even have her original name any more. When she married, she took on a white first and last name and totally rid herself of her birth name. Not even her children ever knew it. All we have is family history passed down by mouth as to the events, but that is it. Anyway, I wish you luck and if you do find something please post it, I would find it most intersting to look into my self.

I know what ya mean. Most of what I know is family stories. My grandmother knew the most, but she passed this last year. So far the only luck I have had is finding my Great grandparents, which of course is not that hard. The family story is that one of my great great " " " grandfathers was from Prusia, Russia. As the story goes his mother fled with him to the US to keep him out of the Prusian army. But when he came to American soil he changed his name. No one in my family knows his original name. If I find anything of use I will be sure to post it. Thanks for your response.
