Well I do believe that whereas people enjoy change for the sake of change God remains what He was in the begining and always shall be. So fasting also shall always remain a significant part of many religions. On the contrary I don't see anything wrong in this act of penance (I don't believe it qualifies remotely as superstition).

well the only way kids learn about important practices is through encouragement. I think letting them partake in the important acts that characterises their religion allows them to have an appreciation what it means. Besides I really do not think muslim kids are forced to fast.

I think that it is ridiculous to suggest that other religions should do the same as a particular religion (in this case Islam) because if that is the case then we should all convert to that religion, and i think diversity is a great thing. People have all kinds of religious beliefs, many taht I don't agree with but it is their religion and they do these things for a reason. To me your post may as well be suggesting that catholics stop taking communion, and jews start eating pork, and hindu's stop believing in karma.

Religious matters are matters of sentiment. It is better one should restrain commenting on others religion and vice versa. Practices, methods adopted by one religion may not be interesting, and may be amusing to other religions. It is better to leave things to themselves without poking our nose.

Traditions are always unique and special to have to any religion or anything for that matter. I don’t think anybody should have to give them up because they don’t quite fit the idea of being “modern”. Religions aren’t modern, they’re an old concept, let the followers of any religion enjoy what they feel is right to support their religion.
