What are the symptoms of a young child with asthma? Is it very common for a child to have asthma if there is no family history? How has it affected the lives of children?

My kids have asthma; there is no prior family history.
It's becoming increasingly common. Doctors still can't agree on a cause.
Labored breathing, as others mentioned, is a common symptom. It's also quite common for kids to exhibit a wet, consistent cough.
My kids take daily medication. When they have bad attacks, that includes Albuterol via a nebulizer. However, usually they are able to control it with daily meds. (Claritin and Singulair, in our case.)
