My most terrifying, violent experience as a kid !

India

I was studying in sixth class, in a city dominated by Muslims. Everyday, I used to get beaten up by bigger Muslim boys in school because I used to protest against their cheating at playing ‘marbles’ (real marbles!). I was studying in a notorious (then) school called St. George’s Grammar School. Everyday I commuted to school by city bus. A bigger Muslim boy (7th class) from my neighborhood, but a different school usually traveled by the same bus. Gradually, he started teasing me & behaving rudely in the bus. One day, unable to take it any longer, I punched him on the face as soon as we alighted from the bus. He started bleeding with a split lip ! I was terrified of the imagined retribution by his community because he lived near my home! He started crying (and I almost did!). I apologized to/entreated with/cajoled him and pointed out that he was to blame for what had happened! Somehow, I soothed/pacified him, and convinced him to fake a story at home about his split lip. From that day, I hardly ever saw him. This happened exactly 40 years ago. (*N.B: This member has no intention whatsoever of casting any slur on Muslims in general, having outgrown such petty/immature conclusions about life/society. Moreover, he has a great respect for Indian Muslims, who have practically merged into mainstream Indian life.)
