EFFECTIVENESS AND BALANCE :
A farmer had only one goose. One fine morning the goose lays one shiny yellow egg. To his delight, the egg turned out to be made of solid gold. The farmer could hardly believe his luck. The goose laid another golden egg the next day, and the next day and so forth. Very soon, he became rich. Finally the farmer decides to have all the golden eggs at once. Therefore he kills the goose and cuts it open. However, unfortunately there were no golden eggs inside.
The farmer looses his source of livelihood forever.
A president of a large multi-national company once said " you can take all my products, machines, destroy my buildings and factories. Leave me only our people and I can build it all up again.
The results - the golden egg, products, machines, buildings and factories are "PRODUCTION (P)
The assets - The goose, the people are "PRODUCTION CAPABILITY (PC.)
Mostly when we talk of being effective, we mean getting results, however, effectivenss does not mean getting results alone, it has another dimension as well i.e, balance. Effectiveness, then, is a balance between production and production capability, P and PC.
