What happens after the gas light comes on?

how many miles can I go after the little low gas light pops on.

i dont like to push it that far either...too risky...but ive been told that theres about a gallon left in the tank... i get about 18 mpg, so i guess when the light comes on, ive got about 18 miles left in the tank...

It varies from car ro car...I can go at least another 5 miles...but I have never pushed it to see jus how far...I go get gas...no desire to be stuck on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere..
