Tattoos are actually more annoying than physically painful when they are being applied. I didn't mind having mine done at all. I have one 5" diameter piece on each leg. They each took about 5 hours to complete, plus touch ups(had to go back for each one, took about 1.5 hours to touch up). Since they're on the lower part of my leg, there's a lot of muscle there. I had to sit with my leg very contorted for a long period of time. I had more pain from the position of my leg than the actual tattoo. Healing isn't painful, but you need to take good care of the tattoo, making sure it doesn't get infected! Then the skin starts healing and you will want to scratch it. It's more bothersome than getting the tattoo, believe me... Get one, they're fun, but research it first and pick a original design. Custom is the way to go!

I will respond to this, because I am informed. I have 3 tattoos. One on my lower back, one on my thigh, and one on my ankle. Placing is important with body fat versus bone, where will the tattoo be near? The tattoo needle vibrates as it's dragged along your skin layers. More than anything, it is annoying, but tolerable. For me, there was no pain afterward.
