Who is a best/true friend, according to you?

Who is a best/true friend, according to you? How can one recognise true friendship, in this complex society? Sometimes, some persons in the mask of friendship,decieve and cheat us ? What precautions do you suggest in selecting friends and in believing them?

Well this is a very tuff question in my life that's why I never make any best friends. I have only good friends in my life.

i have not just 1 bestfriend but a group of bestfriends. these group of my friends are my friends for more than half our lives. we been together for more that 16 years already. throughout these years, we have stuck with each other. we had the ups and downs of our lives but we were able to surpass it. we started out as friends during our high school days and until now that we are already starting our families we are still very much together.
i consider them my bestfriends because they are always true to what they say and feel. no matter how difficult it is for me/us to know the truth regarding life, they are able to say it upfront. we learned to trust each other and help each other in every way.
i think, to be able to know your true friends, you should be in a situation where friendship is tested.
