I usually prefer Skype for calls because it has a better voice quality but still overall Yahoo is best in terms of popularity, features, design and ease of use. Skype is not advanced as a text chat client, it's very awkward and you can't set your online status independently for different people.

I think the comments that yahoo is the best only comes from the fact that there are 3, 4 or 5 times as many people using it, then skype (which is also a great program).
The biggest difference between the two I think is the fact that you have chat rooms. Which MSN no longer has, and skype doesn't have.
There are other chat programs that also do, but the number of users are by far smaller then those on yahoo

It´s just because that yahoo messenger is an very old communication programme, that everybody knows about, but not everybody knows about skype which is a rather new programme.I think that skype is much better, although it does not have as many smilies as yahoo messenger has.

Well i dont think so...yahoo may be feature rich but i fing gtalk very simple to use and i feel it is simply great...by just logging in gmail i can chat wid my friends and by being in gtalk i can visit the profiles of all my friends in orkut
And yes although you wont find many features in gtalk but it is the only messenger which works well even from ost of the firewalls...
