For those of you who don't know Hugh Laurie (Gregory House) is British and has quite a thick Queen's English british accent. For the show, he learned to speak American English (and very well I might add). You like him with his gruff American accent or British accent better?

I don't mind him either way. I also watch another show where an actor, Jamie Bamber, has a native English accent, but speaks a very good American one.

If you listen carefully, and I bet you do, Jamie's accent slips every now and then or he drops a very British phrase. As to Hugh Laurie, I wasn't aware he was British or that he had an accent. Guess I will be looking for him in some other parts just hear. I love an English accent. By the way, accents are just perspective, you know. In England, they think we Americans are the ones with accents. Growing up in California, my brothers always used to tell me Californians were the only people without and accent.

Laurie actually made 'fun' if you will of his 'accent' (actually a word he used that he said 'I don't know if you Yanks use that word'). He has a VERY thick British accent and does very well to hide it on the show.

I didn't realize he even had an English accent. Every Tv show and movie I have ever seen him in he had the American accent.

I saw him on a tv talk show and I could not believe that he had such a strong British accent. Its amazing how well he speaks with an american accent on the show. You can't even tell. For me, I like his american accent better.

I'm with you. I saw him on the screen actors guild and I heard him speak and went 'HUH?'. It is INCREDIBLE he pulls off such an incredible American accent.

I was so surprised the first time I heard him speaking off of the show! I love the British accent. I must say that he has done a wonderful job of learning American English. Brilliant!

He is an excellent actor and can play any role with ease. Very tallented indeed. In the interviews he speaks in his normal voice. I've always thought it must be hard to try and keep one that is foreign to you going through a filming session etc.

I was really surprised the first time I heard him talking with his British English Accent. I thought maybe he was joking - since he's a real jokester - but then I reslized he is just a really good actor - and he really did master the American English.

I believe it really hard to see that this guys mainly speaks in your majesty's queen accent, even though I can see that in off-stage interviews with him. I believe he's got so used to the american accent that now he speaks better with that one actually.

Hugh Laurie is the man!!! I first saw him on House, and I really thought he was an American actor, his accent was so good. Then I watched the movie, Flight of the Phoenix, I was surprised and amazed when he had an English accent. I said to myself that he is really a good actor, to have studied and mastered the English accent, I guess it was the other way around. Anyway, House with an American is more appropriate specially when he delivers his patent, quick-witted remarks to his peers & patients. =)

I'm an avid House watcher and madly in love with the character of Greg House. I've also seen him in other roles in which he uses his british accent. I think for me personally, hands down, I like the american accent MUCH better. Which is odd, since I usually find the british accent very appealing. I think it all has to do with what he says in the american accent!

What amazes me is that he can pull off a flawless American accent, but American actors always butcher British accents! They just sound horrible, I can't think of a single American actor that has done a really believable British accent. Hugh Laurie is just an amazing actor.

Hugh Laurie can talk to me in any language he wants!! My knees go weak for an accent, and for him. If he spoke to me in his native accent I think I would just fall down! Me

I like Hugh's English and American accent. At first, I never knew he was English even when I was watching him for the first time in Stuart Little ages ago. After learning on House and trivias on the internet on the show and cast that he is actually British, I listened to his English accent and I like it better than his American accent. Great American accent though! I didn't have a clue he wasn't American just like director Bryan Singer.
