How did a pineapple get its name when it is niether a pine nor an apple? I have been pondering this for quite some time now. Does anyone know?

Lol..so you did end up posting this..well, I decided to go and find the answer, here is something I found on the net. It is about the first European encounter with this amazing fruit. Christopher Columbus and his crew lowered anchor in a cove off of the island of Guadaloupe. The european sailors, ate, enjoyed and recorded the curious new fruit which had an abrasive, segmented exterior like a pinecone, and a firm interior pulp like an apple. :P
