If you find a tick on a dog does that mean there is probably more of them on it?

I have neve seen a tick until today. I thought the dog had a scab but soon noticed it had legs. I have never experianced them so I don't know if there would be more one the dog. Yuck.

If there is one, then there might be more. I hope that you were able to remove the enire tick from your dog, head and body. Go and get a flea and tick collar from a pet store, and put it on the dog right away. This should help get any other tick off, if you had not found any more, and help prevent more from getting on your dog. Depending on how wooded, or grassy the area that your dog goes wandering into, it's best to check for ticks everytime that he is out in areas like that. Ticks can also carry several diseases that can be harmful to you and your dog, so if he is starting to look like he is sick, then get him to a vet right away. Good Luck.

There is always the chance of there being more ticks, yes. The appearance of one tick means that, at the least, the dog was in an area that was habitable for ticks. I have heard from dog owners before that there is usually more than one tick on a dog if there is one there. I personally am totally creeped out by ticks. I had one on my head once and didn't know it for awhile, just thought that it was a bump since I couldn't see up there*laugh* Finally I went to get a haircut from my aunt and she found it and tried to burn it off of my head, nearly burning me in the process, lol! But no worries there, I was fine. But it didn't work. So I finally had to get it removed by a doctor. It hurt a little bit, but it was more than worth it to have the darn thing off of my head! LOL^_^ Since then I've always worried that I'll run into another tick.. but thankfully, not so far.

The only way to find out is to check the dog all over. There could be more or that could have been the only one.

I think that there will be more than one tick. They can be burned off with a match, but the longer they stay on, the bigger they get. Ewww.
