Viruses are pranks from year 2000, when internet started to get popular, Norton has stopped about all of them.
Back then virus writers competed to see who could get the most computers infected, norton stopped it all. Nowadays we have more anti viruses, But people believe anything bad goes wrong is a virus, not true mostly. Virus are only passed on certain people. Virus does not cause everything wrong.
It could be hardware or anything.
nice topic though

There is a ton of software you can buy. Get a McAfee antivirus program (go to Wal Mart, Target, Best Buy, etc....you may be able to download it online, I'm not sure) and install it. It will tell you if you have any viruses and what course of action to take from there. They aren't terribly expensive so if you're worried about your computer they're a good investment - they're much cheaper than a new computer.

There is plenty of antivirus programs out there that you can use to scan and protect your computer from virus. Here is a website to a free antivirus program. Since you are tight on money right now I would recommend this site.

Otherwise I would recommend McAfee Internet Security Suite to give you full protection from viruses, worms, spyware and hackers. You should never use the internet on a computer without an antivirus program and other software to protect your computer these days. Hope this works for you.
