Why does Mash potato have to be so smooth?

I really don't understand it! I dislike mash potato because it is so smooth. The texture just does not work with me. I prefer my mash to have some texture and be a little bit interesting. If you're for the smooth disintegrating mash tell me why?

I LOVE LUMPY MASHED POTATOES! My mom makes them with the skins still on, and I think that is ultimately delicious! I'm such a mashed potato fan. If you lived closer, we could totally eat some lumpy together. Haha. I also like adding things to my mashed potatoes, like ranch dressing instead of gravy, sometimes, for variation.

ooh with the skins on! I've never thought of that. I don't know if my boy would go for it. He has some weird phobia about potato skins :D I love making a volcano shape out of my mash and making a hole in the top then add some butter and close it off then once its melted put little fork holes in the mash so it all drizzles out like a volcano :D Plus cheese is good.

Oddly enough, I do that too, make it volcanic. I love it when whatever I put on my potatoes actually STAYS in them and doesn't run all over my plate. Now I want potatoes.

Sorry I am not really one of the people you are looking for, but I could not pass this up. I HATE smoothe mash potatoes. Lumps means they are real, mash potatoes. I also like them with cheese. So lumpy and cheesy! Yum!

I'm glad someone agrees with me! I find when mash potato is brought up everyone says it's only nice without the lumps, but I find it so plain that way.

I like the smooth mash potatoes, as my family complains when the potatoes are lumpy. If I use old potatoes, then there are usually lumps and they are chewy. Mashed potatoes are one of the few foods I like to eat when my throat is sore with plenty of butter, as its great comfort food, so I feel better.

mashed potatoes will not be very hard, but it depends on you how much milk or sour cream youare putting in the pot when you are using the mixer to smash the potatoes
