Sonu started his career singing covers of Mohammad Rafi songs. His first movie as a playback singer was Janum.
Again he got his big break as a playback singer in Gulshan Kumar's film Aaja Meri Jaan and then "Accha Sila Diya Tune" from Bewafa Sanam .
His first album is sapnay ki baat in 1997....

i don't remember the name of the first album though i do remember the song... it was tu kab ye jaanegi featuring bipasha basu in the music video.
