Recently, I have been doing alot of thinking and I want to do something in sales. The only experience I have was in Telemarketing and that job was preety good, I'd actually get an extra $200 in comission on top of my check.
However, I don't want to sell on the phone anymore- I want to take it a step up and be face to face with someone when I am selling a product.
I really want to be a jewelry sales associate or furniture sales woman... Either one would be great. Has anyone worked in this business or something similiar as a sales person?
If so please give me a little more info, what are the pro's and con's? I would love to hear

Oh boy. I went through the sales BS for 2 years and it was not good. It's good though you are hearing this from me as there are two sides to the coin. First, anyone hiring people to be in sales (especially commission sales) will glorify how much money you can make. I was in the hardest sales there is, life insurance. "You can make this much, and that much and you can make $10,000 a month". That is true, but the person pulling $10,000/month has been in the business for 20 years. Believe me, they will sugar coat everything. BE AWARE!
There's nothing wrong with sales, but you really have to have "it" to be in sales. Like the 1 post, you have to learn how to handle rejection and not take things personally.
Whatever the sales position is, see what kind of pay you are getting. Salary, full commission, salary+commission (this one is the best).
Just be careful in sales because beleive me, it just as much as a game to sell, than it is when they try to recruit you.
Good luck and by the sounds of it, you have a great attitude and your young enough to try to build your client base and later on when you've got experience, then full commission might be the best, because experience and a large client base, is sort of your "base". Always, always send a thank you card after a sale, you'll be surprised on the referrals.
Good luck and remember to protect yourself from the BS of "you can make this much and that much, blah blah blah...."

I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah, even when I went into Phone Sales they sugar-coated things and it isn't easy as it sounds but I know I have the talent.
As for rejection, it doesn't bother me at all... if I am in the midst of selling a product and the customer say's No, now - they must have a reason why... and I will have a good rebuttle to the reason :) but I'm not the type of sales woman to keep pushing the subject, I'm a little more on the passive side. There are tons of scenarios I could show you but you get the point.
Anyways thank you very much for the advice and I will keep the "Thank you card" in mind, that's a great idea!

Hi there ,I got into direct selling about 4 years ago,I am a mother of two little ones and life was very tough , I got scammed online a zillion time to work from home or open online store for a fee , it didn't work for me,I lost a lot of money I didn't have. One day I joined avon and it changed my life,it wasn't make money on the spot right away , because I learned if you fly up and high fast you fall on your head , so it started litte by little , my first campaign I sold to 9 neighbors , each of them bought a complimentry lipstick to cheer me up ,I made $25,i wasn't hopeful, next campaign I collected orders from people that got my brochure the campaign before but couldn't order for some reason , I made $800 pure profit , eversince than I've been working with Avon , giving books to everybody , all my friends and family also rotate my books to everyone they know , I've been since then one happy Avon lady.I started with $10 for training , no inventory no experience and in debt to be exact 15 thousands K.Now,4 years later ,I have started a college fund for 2 kids , out of debt ,a savings account , we go out and afford to eat out , I get new customers with every campaign , I honestly have a much better life now,Try it out you don't have anything to lose ,I always tell my new recruits if you don't sell anything it's ok at least you're getting your cosmetics , jewelry , and gifts for your family at a constant discount price that you can never find in a store .Visit my webstore and see the products , if you want to try , shoot me an email at avonbynilerose@aol.com , and I'll help you through it , you make 50% of your sales

Wow, that is great to hear. Yeah, I am tired of online scams as well. It is better to hear stories from people like you. I'm glad your making money with Avon.
Yes, I agree -it is always the best idea to start out small when you are trying something new just in case things don't work out right aka "landing face first"... it's happened to me before and I don't intend for it to happen again.
Now, as for selling gifts and jewelry sounds like something I may enjoy doing. Anyways, I'd love to check out your webstore and know more about this... I'll send you a message:)
Thank you.

Sales jobs are everywhere. The main thing you need to know is the product and have a bright cheerful attitude and it helps to not be too pushy. You'll meet good and bad people, but I believe you will have a better experience out in the world instead of telemarketing that is usually not too welcomed by people.

good luck with sales. it seems u are good at it. well the cons are: you need to be able to take rejection well and dont let it discourage you, you need to be under oressure typically to make your quota, you need to place yourself in uncomfortable positions. Pros are: you are good and like it, good money, not everyone can do it

it is hard, believe me. but there is the challenge. everything started difficult though. what it really takes is discipline and focus. because it is far different from your telemarketing experience. in sales you need to be tough to tough people. but, hey, again it is challenging to be out there in the field and do business to anybody from all walks of life. Try it, and it will be a good experience. good luck!!!

I have done sales ever since i left college, you really want to find a job which is not commision based. In the Uk you can work in sales but only make money when you sell something.
I much prefer phone sales my last job i was making about £4k extra bonus per month and was working 9-5 field sales can be long and tiering hours.
I think the furniture sales would be better, as i would never buy jewlerry off anyone who is trying to sell me i need to be wanting to buy it.
I hope this is what you are looking for and good luck.

doing sales is not an easy job; and its not as easy as ur telemarketing ; here u need to interact with consumers which is a tough job. here u need to listen what the consumers say whether rigth or wrong and then give ur part ofthe coversation. u also need to listen to cosumers bad comments or words towards u. if ur fine with the above u are fit to work for sales.secondly u must know how to face ur consumer and should be answerable to them. will u be able to do so??? thiredly cross question can take place where if u do not give answers u losse not only ur customer but also ur job at times, so u need to very carful. Apart from that, u will be paid twice as more if u succed because a business will always give u incentives but also an increment in ur salary if ur able to provide sales

One of the best ways I know of, is to start with a party-plan company. I started with Tupperware years ago and things just went from then. The party planners usually have GREAT training and wonderful support, which is good if you are just starting out.
All the best with your future ventures.

I believe it is better to do it in person that over the phone it is very hard to sell something when people cannot see what you are trying to sell. I have sold jewellery to others but only through having my own business in regards to this I found it fasinating and quite easy to sell.

I've been doing sales for about 6 years. The way I started was the dreaded, "Cell Phone" sales. I was the guy at the mall trying to "trick" you to get a cell phone. I learned how to handle rejection, how to overcome rejection and how not to take anything personally. You need those 3 to be sucessful. If you really want to work in jewelery sales, go to different jewelery stores in the mall and see how they try to sell you. If they can do, you can do it.

I have tried sales in many different platforms. I have come to the conclusion that I cannot sell water to a dying man in the desert.
My ex on the other hand is an excellent salesman and he owns a used car lot. I really admire his ability to convince people to buy something. It's amazing.
Good luck in your search.
