The majority of physicians and other health professionals believe there is a clear association between a diet high in fruits and vegetables and a low risk of chronic disease. Phytonutrients (naturally derived plant compounds), particularly antioxidants, are increasingly being shown to help optimize human health.
Cranberries contain proanthocyanidins (PACs) that can prevent the adhesion of certain of bacteria, including E. coli, associated with urinary tract infections to the urinary tract wall. The anti-adhesion properties of cranberry may also inhibit the bacteria associated with gum disease and stomach ulcers.
Recent scientific research shows that cranberries and cranberry products contain significant amounts of antioxidants and other phytonutrients that may help protect against heart disease, cancer and other diseases.

Cranberry Bread Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup walnuts (about 4 ounces)
1 stick (4 ounces) unsalted butter, melted
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup orange juice
3 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon grated orange zest
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan. Place nuts on a baking sheet and toast in oven until very lightly browned and fragrant, about 5 minutes. Leave oven on. Coarsely chop nuts and set aside.
In a large bowl, using a hand held mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg. Beat 1 minute. Gradually beat in juice. Add flour, baking powder, orange zest, and salt. Mix until just blended. Stir in cranberries and toasted walnuts. Spread batter into pan.
Bake until top of loaf is golden and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 50 to 55 minutes. Let stand in pan for 10 minutes, then unmold onto a wire rack and let cool completely.

I know of a few health benefits that cranberries provide as my Aunt used to drink a lot of cranberry juice when she was alive.. I will share with you the ones in which I know..
I know that cranberries improve the body's circulatory system, they as well contain special ingredients that help to cleanse, as well as strengthen the urinary tract but also one's prostrate gland.
I've also heard as of recently from watching the news that cranberries may also now have anti-cancer properities. Which is wonderful to hear, as now maybe drinking cranberry juice or eating cranberries can help to prevent cancer in one way or another.
Those are the only health benefits I know of when it comes to cranberries. I hope this has helped to give you insight on some of the health benefits you we're looking to know about when it comes to cranberries.
And the only recipe I know of is making home-made cranberry sauce.. My Grandma has made it for years now & has passed down her recipe to me. So I shall share it with you..
First the ingredients you need to make cranberry sauce are as follows: You need 1/2 pound of cranberries, 1 cup of white sugar, as well as.. 1/2 cup of water.
You then in a microwaveable bowl or a microwave safe bowl, combine/mix together the cranberries, sugar & water. You then cover the mixture you had created with wax paper & then you microwave the mixture on high heat. Or high power, whatever you prefer to call it. Until the cranberries pop, I've found it takes roughly seven minutes but everyone's microwave is different. And then you chill for a while in the refrigerator & then you serve the cranberry sauce.
I've always found this recipe to be rather simple, but also very yummy as well.
I hope if you are looking for new recipes to try with cranberries that this when works out for you.

I love cranberries and they are good for your urinary system.
I make a chutney from fruit and serve it beside or on top of turkey, ham, chicken, pork or beef. It tastes good with everything we have tried it with so far.
4 Sm. Apples, (not peeled) cut into small pieces
1/2 can of whole cranberry sauce
1/2 c. raisins
1/4 c. apple cider vinegar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Put all ingredients into a pot and simmer on med-low for about 30 minutes or until apples are soft and sauce is thick.
Chill and serve.
It is very good. My husband who hates cranberries loves this!

Cardiovascular Health
Preliminary research shows that cranberries have the ability to decrease total cholesterol and LDL, or bad cholesterol, and increase blood flow.
Anti-Cancer
Cranberries are rich in flavonoids. These phytonutrients have been shown to inhibit certain types of cancer.
Ulcers
New research suggests compounds found in Cranberries may inhibit ulcer-causing bacteria from sticking to the stomach wall.
Anti-Aging
Polyphenolic compounds found in Cranberry may help to protect against neurodegenerative diseases, and the memory and coordination losses often associated with aging.
Urinary Tract Infection
The Proanothcyanidins found in Cranberries can prevent urinary tract infections by inhibiting E. coli bacteria from attaching to the urinary tract wall. The National Kidney Foundation recommends drinking at least one large glass of cranberry juice a day to help maintain urinary tract health.

Cranberries are source of polyphenol antioxidants, chemicals which are known to provide certain health benefits to the cardiovascular system and immune system. Cranberry juice is supposed to reduce the rate of urinary tract infection. It also contain significant concentrations of benzoic acid, which in combination with vitamen c forms small amounts of the group 1 carcinogen benzene.
I don't have a recipe but i'll get back on you when i found one.

Cranberry is a cousin of the blueberry, and so is very tart, This bright red berry can still be found growing wild as a shrub, but when cultivated, is grown on low trailing vines in great sandy bogs.
The American cranberry is the variety most cultivated in the northern United States and southern Canada, this produces a larger berry than the wild cranberry or the European variety.
Native Americans used raw cranberries as a wound dressing. Early settlers from England learned to use the berry both raw and cooked for a number of ailments including appetite loss, digestive problems, blood disorders, and scurvy (vitamin C deficiency that causes weakness, gum disease, and spontaneous bleeding in the skin).
In the early 1920s, American scientists discovered that people who eat large amounts of cranberries have more acid in their urine than those who do not eat high amounts of the berry. Because bacteria cannot survive in an acidic environment, the researchers speculated that a diet rich in cranberries may help prevent and treat urinary tract infections (UTIs), which are commonly caused by bacteria known as Escherichia coli.
In time, the popularity of cranberry for UTIs soared and many women reported satisfactory results from drinking cranberry juiceā¦
Several studies have measured high levels of antioxidants in people after drinking cranberry juice. Research is underway to determine if the antioxidant ability of cranberries will translate into protection from heart disease.
More Recent studies suggest that this native American berry may also promote gastrointestinal and oral health, prevent the formation of kidney stones, lower LDL and raise HDL (good) cholesterol, aid in recovery from stroke, and even help prevent cancer.
Fresh cranberries, which contain the highest levels of beneficial nutrients, are at their peak from October through December, just in time to add their festive hue, tart tangy flavour and numerous health protective effects to your holiday meals.
When cranberries' short fresh season is past, we rely on cranberry juice and dried or frozen cranberries to help make every day throughout the year a holiday from disease.
