Nail biting is during periods of nervousness, stress, hunger, or boredom . It can also be a sign of mental or emotional disorder. The clinical name for nail biting is chronic onychophagia.

To pass time especially when I'm bored or If I need to divert my attention on something. It's an involuntary act you don't think about doing it but you find yourself doing it. Sometimes my fingers will hurt for days.its a nasty habit which I can't seem to get out of my system.

I notice that when my nails are reaching the length of the tip of the finger it starts to bother me as if I lose sensibility and freedom. Then one by one I bite them down to the pink area.

A lot of people bite there nail when they get nervous. I know my son bites his down to the skin. But, I am sure people have other reasons for biting there nails also. God Bless

I use to bite my nails and I don't know why. It was a need to do it and then one day I decided that it looked really ugly and I quit.

Nail biting might be an indication of a possible underlying tendency for the individual to be auto-cannibalistic. I've actually noticed that in some case, nail biting will lead to biting and chewing upon the bottom section of the palm nearest the wrist. My theory is that anxiety in people suffering from this affliction triggers a desire for self-consumption, self-devourment as a subconscious method of coping with the state of nervousness.

when you get stressed in some sort of manner like money things or seeing a cricket match then it is the first thing automatically and very close that goes in ur fingers...as u can't eat up your fingers then they will be turned out to nails.......so people even me bite nails.....

it surely is a very bad habit...people bite their nails when they are angry or due to fear or due to any tension and stress... we must find out a way to relieve stress and not bite our nails cause it reflects our character....

It is a bad habbit. It may arise due to nerveousness or some other pre-occupation something like that.

I bite my nails because it's a habit, it feels good, and I'm too lazy to clip them.
