My husband and I play Monopoly or Scrabble sometimes but I want to purchase some new board games for adults. I have seen a few games out there but I don't want to purchase for fear that they won't be fun. Does anyone have a favorite game that is good for adults to play?

I like Scattegories. It's a real fun game. I like the computer game version. But I saw the board game and loved that one as well. It's a word play game and you have a die that has the letters of the alphabet. Your given a category, and the one that lists the most with whatever letter was rolled wins.
I hope you take a look at the game, it's great fun and competion is great!

I absolutely love playing scrabble!!My husband and I love it. Of course he usually beats me. Scattegories is a great game for adults. The answers people come up with can be very intresting. It's definately worth the investment.

Have you found some other games that you like? Some games that are in our cupboard are Scattegories (Sp?) My family really enjoys playing this one!, Sequence, Scene It? (this one is so great!!), Pictionary, Scrabble, UpWords (I don't even know if they make this one anymore), and rummy royal.
At family get togethers, we also enjoy playing card games. Cribbage and Texas Hold 'em are the favorites, but slowly we're learning other games like, 500 and Spades.

My favorite two player game is Carcassonne. It's a tile-laying game where you build a region and get points for things like longest road, biggest city, etc. It also works for up to five players (six with the expansion).
If you're looking for a group game, check out Settlers of Catan. This is a fabulous resource management game from Germany, but it requires three or more players, so it might not fit if it's usually just you and the hubby. There is a two player version of it, but it's not nearly as good.
I used to work in a game store, so I have played literally thousands of board games. The best ones are usually imports. MayFair Games does a lot of them, so that's a great place to start!
