I love Reality Television even though I know it's wrong!!!

I love reality television. Love it! I watch Big Brother, Australian Idol, Survivor, The Amazing Race, The Biggest Loser, The Apprentice and even Beauty And The Geek.
I know it's wrong and bad to admit this. And I'm aware that all those shows aren't really going to increase my brain cell levels, but I watch them anyway. I get completely addicted. I need to know what happens in the next week. I want to know where the relationships go. How the conflicts end. What friendships or alliences will be formed.
I think that I enjoy all these reality shows because they are generally real people that go on these shows, albeit sometimes very extroverted...
I'm a 32 year old women, that is fairly well educated and this is my vice. I have no excuses or explanations as to why I am so addicted to these shows.
I was wondering why other people are so addicted to this form of entertainment that others brand as 'absolute rubbish?'

i am an amazing race addict. i always get to watch every episode of every season. but i don't find anything wrong with that. i get to see many good places through through amazing race episodes. i get to learn some of their cultures somehow. and i find that great.
i do believe that reality shows have this thrill that we can't get from scripted shows. there's the element of excitement and it's really great to wait for the next episode.

LMAO I understand what you mean, for Big Brother last year I even got the real player gold, so that I could watch the 24/7 streams and cams... I was just to engrossed... man some of the fighting and name calling you just do not get to see on TV its so edited...(thank goodness for that) It just proves yet again we are all to human even in front of cameras :))

The Amazing Race is pretty much my favourite along with Survivor. And on the topic of live streaming, my mobile phone company is one of the major sponsors of Australia's Big Brother. So I can watch Big Brother 24/7 on my mobile phone!
And I agree with you Maryanne the the excitement grows because the shows are unscripted. And the audience doesn't know what will happen next.
I remember a few years ago on a Big Brother eviction that the evicted housemate staged a protest about the amount of detained refugees in Australia. He taped his mouth and refused to speak. It was such a powerful message and one that wouldn't have happened if shows like that weren't live.
It's also human nature to pick heroes and villians. I think we do it sub-conciously. I know for me I have my favourites of each season, and people I just can't stand. I'm sure all the contestants are nice people, but I do always pick favourites. I can't help it!

Why do you say that watching reality TV is wrong? How is it different then lets say me losing myself in a Stephen King novel? I too enjoy survivor and Big Brother and UK Big brother. Its just another form of entertainment. I can lose myself for an hour and laugh at the antics of other people. I could see if you were losing a pay check and are so completely addicted that it became your life, where it might be harmful. But lets face it is downtime, time we are spending not worried about bills or chores. I for one don't care what other people think of my viewing habits. If I enjoy it thats were I will be!!
I spend enough time expanding my mind, its hard not to when taking care of children and a family. I have other hobbies that occupy my mind and time.
So forget those who might turn up thier noses at your "rubbish TV" and just enjoy :))

I agree with you totally! I had my tongue firmly in my cheek when I wrote that post. I love the escapism that these shows bring. A few hours of total fun can be the best thing. And I don't really care what other people think of my viewing habits. It's fun for me and I enjoy watching. So be it!

watching TV is not bad but see only inspring programs that`ll help you. i`m not kiddin its true. this happened with me too.

I love them all. I recently have been watching flavor of love and I love New york. I also have been making some money off of these shows with blogs.
