why is it that when muslim women cover their heads with a scarf they are scoffed at and in some parts of the world they r prohibited to do that. however when a nun from the christian religion covers her head she is given the highest of respect. whats the criteria here ? religion? societal norms? governmental laws? i'm kind of confused. and then they say that women are liberated . its strange that women dressed modestly are disrespected while those practically nude are given respect.

another thing I have noticed is the way mylot works. Most new messages go under way too quick because of all of the new messages and activity going on. So your message as you post it would be on 3rd or maybe 4th page in a few minutes and most people miss that. Once you see its going under way too quick perhaps add a comment to it or add something to your message so it comes back up. I think mylot has to change/improve its interface so more messages are displayed on one page and we can get more responses..

I have seen programs about this and people's views vary. Came across news about this recently.
"The Belgian security firm, Group 4 Securicor, has sacked one of its workers: a female receptionist who insisted on wearing the head scarf.
The website Flandersnews quoted the Flemish daily De Standaard reporting on Saturday that Samira Achbita now intends to take legal action against her dismissal.
The woman had been working for Group 4 for 3 years.
Her employer was highly satisfied with her work until she decided to start wearing a headscarf a couple of months ago, said the paper. "

and in another news.....
A Muslim shop assistant says she was forced to leave her new job after her boss told her they had a no scarves policy. The young woman wears the hijab, a headscarf worn by many Muslim women.

I was hoping we will views from others but I guess no one wants to be engaged in discussion which is political or religious in nature. Anyway here is what I think about this...
The negative stereotypes of Muslim women probably arise from the varying treatment of women. The Western media, for some reason, latch on to a few examples of unjust behavior in the Islamic world, brand Islam as a backwards and "fundamentalist" religion, especially in its treatment of women, and ignore that it was the first religion to accord women equal rights. While Christian and Jewish women were still considered inferior and the property of their husbands, Muslim women were being given shares in inheritance, were allowed to choose or refuse prospective husbands, and were considered equal to men in the eyes of God. However, through time slowly changing customs, and the rise of male-dominated, patriarchal nation-states, Muslim governments began placing restrictions on women which had no grounds in the Quran, the Islamic holy book. On the other hand, Christian and Jewish women in the West have slowly been awarded rights.
so in my opinion its a wrong perception, that media has embossed into people's mind and overall the its perceived by others, leads to what we are seeing these days. No one shows nuns or other religious people wearing similar way rather only concentrate on one religious group..
