For me, it was camping in a tent for 2 days 1 mile high in the Smoky Mtns. We had a gorgeous campsite, right by the edge of the mountain where we could view many miles...the air was fresh and clean, and it was a wonderful experience. What's yours and where was it?

I have so many memories of camping. I can remember my dad pulling a guy out of quicksand while we were camping in Michigan. When my girls were little we were camping outside of Marietta, Ohio at a state park. I was getting something out of the car and when I turned around my husband was standing on the table in our screen tent. Here a skunk had gotten in and he wanted me to unzip the screen room to let it out. There was the time the squirrels ate a hole in our tent camper to get at a banana that I forgot to put away. That was in Kentucky. In Wisconsin it rained so hard that the creek we were camped near was over flooding its banks. We broke camp wading in water up to our ankles and it was getting deeper. That is only a few of the memorable camping trips I have had in my life.

I never know it either until those boys got caught in it. You just don't associate quicksand with most states.

Unfortunately, my most memorable was not memorable because it was pleasant. It was memorable because of the tornado that came through nearby while we were camping. We all got out of the tent and waited it out in the car in the most sheltered area we could find. It was pretty scary when the winds and rain picked up like they did.

I so wish that I had a story about a really beautiful trip to an amazing place... instead, my most memorable camping experience is the one where I rolled right out of the "bed area" of one of those pop-up tent trailers in the middle of the night lol We were having a sleepover with some friends we'd made at the campground and this was like their "extra trailer" for the kids to use. I hit the ground and woke up wondering what happened (it's probably luck that I didn't get hurt or break anything). I went around, opened the door, walked over a couple of other sleeping people and went back to bed :D My dad nearly wet himself the next day, laughing so hard at my misfortune lol

For me it was my first ever camping trip when I was about 5 years old. We went to a small campsite on the east coast to a little place called Inverbervie, we had a great time but the most memorable thing about the trip was the thunderstorm. It was the Wednesday evening the rain was battering off the tent, mum and dad were sitting talking I was lying in my bedroom compartment reading with the door tied up when the thunder and lightening started, within about 5 minutes of the thunder stating something came in under the back of the tent, my mum thought it was a cat, it turned out to be the Yorkshire terrier (Beauty was her name) from the tent across from ours. The family had gone into town and Beauty had got frightened and managed to get out, poor wee thing was absolutely soaked, we dried her off then she lay in beside me and fell asleep. The family were so relieved when they got back that she was safe and sound.

It was my sons 14th birthday and all he wanted to do was go camping. So we took our boat out and found a island in the middle of the lake and camped there. It was great. We swam all day. Then we had a camp fire and roasted marshmellows. We cooked out and ate all evening. It was just the four of us My hubby, my two boys and myself. The boys are growing up so fast. My oldest son is 20 and engaged so there may not be anymore just the 4 of us.

Mine would have to be the time about a year ago when I went with my college Backpacking and Camping class. It was at a place called Stone Door, I believe, or somewhere around. Anyway we hiked about a mile and a half to a clearing in the woods. There was supposed to be rain, and we were making guesses as to exactly what time it would hit. It was already dark, and it got really windy for a little while, then the rain hit- it was so sudden we barely had time to get in the tents. There was thunder and lightning CLOSE by, all night, and we were right under some tall trees so it wasn't very safe, haha. But we survived! Of course the tents leaked pretty bad, too, so we were all cold and wet the whole night. We hiked back in the morning and the trail was really flooded, it was interesting trying to cross the miniature rivers...

When I was younger my parents and I would go on 3-4 week camping trips. It was awesome for me because I was able to visit so many places in the United States and Canada at such a young age. I think it helped me grow into a really down-to-earth person because I haven't been stuck in one city my whole life. I think that when people get stuck in one place without having ever been away from it, they absorb the attitude and have a hard time realizing that there is a bigger world out there than just the little city they live in!
However, my favorite trip of all time was when I went to the Grand Canyon. I was awestruck! Canada was amazing too... the water is SOOOOO blue and unpolluted! It's refreshing.

The most pleasant moment for my camping was at the SPECIAL CENTENARY ALL INDIA JAMBOREE, at Rajarhat, near Kolkata, where 20,000 scouts & guides and their leaders camped from 2nd January to 7th January, 2007. Scouts representatives from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Macau-china and Portugals joined the Jamboree. Perched in a 4 sq.kms (100 acres) green, grassy land, 2,5000 tents were put up. Improvised gadgets were made. And what charmed me most is the intermingling to vast community of boy scouts and girl guides, the ethnic dress, cuisine, culture and heritage. It has been a life-time experience.

I've had so many but I would to say that my most memorable would be the 3 nights we spent in Utah at the Fisher Towers BLM tent only campsite. My husband and I were the only ones there and the scenery was some of the most beautiful I've ever seen.

By far the best trip I've ever taken was in New Mexico. I went backpacking in the San de Cristo Mtns. I hope I spelled that right. The experience reminded me of those westerns I watched as a kid.

We were primitive camping one summer at the Ohio Power Lands in southeastern Ohio and it rained hard and long one night and we were landlocked for 2 days because of the floods that kept us from leaving. My hubby tried to access the freeways, but they were under water. We were lucky that we had just shopped for groceries and that our fridge in the R.V. was propane. So we were in no immediate danger, but a lot of people lost their tents and belongings in that flood and a small town nearby was devastated. We were lucky to be camped up on a hill away from the flooded areas and we had a canoe to help others with.

wow...that definitely was a very memorable experience..how awful about the other campers and the town..i think it was wonderful of you to help the ones you could, so many others would have just taken care of themselves...i do always try to find high ground when camping, you never know what a sudden torrential rain can do, specially if you are unfamiliar with the area and the waterways close by...thank you so much for sharing that experience!
