I remember vividly how our big German Shepherd showed his love for human beings, in his life-giving act. When he heard my cousin calling out for help from a poisonous snake that tried to attack him, our dog did reach the scene immediately and chased the snake to its hole. But unfortunately, he tried to scratch the ground in his effort to find the snake and got bit on his face. However, he managed to kill the snake before he died. This left a deep impression in my mind as a four year old boy. If the dog showed its loyalty (?) by risking its life, that must be quite remarkable. Or, were we romanticising the event which showed just an instance of animal(?) behaviour? If so, why did he not attck snakes at other times? The best person to convince me was my cousin, and I stick to his opinion. The dog loved him so much that it risked its life for him.

Dogs have been known to risk their lives to save humans they care for. I'm not talking about ones trained to protect human life but just your typical house pet. They have had them pull their owners from fires, come between them and attackers, even stop other wild animals. They have a love and a loyalty I think that some humans could take a lesson from. They never cease to amaze me.

I too believe that dogs express love, and would even die for love. We had a dog that did that. It pains me to talk about it. I just wanted to confirm it.
