Which form of writing is most cathartic for you?

I find that any form of writing is an excellent way of purging my emotions and the negativity that can plague me. The most cathartic though would have to be the social comentaries that I keep pouring out. Society can get under my skin with the blantant wanton ignorance that is exibited by so many of the blind masses. I have to go to the computer and pour it all out into pages of opinionated ranting. I am quite proud of a couple of these though. The most poigniant of my rants, "Corporation Nation" is being turned into a poetry slam entry. I hope to help further the catharsis by allowing my emotions to flow out during the slam.

The form of writing that allows me to express emotions is poetry. It helps me relieve so much and sometimes people can't tell what the poem is REALLY about because they just look at th e surface meaning. But then again I love all forms of writing.

You bring up a good point, a lot of people don't READ a poem. They will read it or more to the point look at it and not internalize, analyze, and then understand what is written. Interesting side note, the number of people who read something and take it at face value.

I guess the most cathartic form of writing would be found only in a diary, or autobiographical notes not originally meant to be published. It calls for a lot of experience and skill to speak through metaphors, but poetry may provide you ample space for self-expression, which in turn can be cathartic.

That is a good point, journaling and free writing are two of the most cathartic. They allow for the opening of the valve to empty the mind of the many things that can clutter and get in the way of clear and "rational" thoughts.

I find I can pour out my heart in poetry best. You can say things in a poem that would sound foolish in prose.

All forms of writing can be cathartic for me. It depends on my mood and what I'm trying to express. Most often though poetry is my form of choice. I love written poetry and I am just getting into slam myself. My first time participating in a slam is Sunday afternoon and I'm so phyched!
