How do you select your mylot friends? How do you decide who to approve?

I notice that there is quite a bit of discussion about the friends category here, but does anyone have specific rules that they use to decide who they will either choose as a friend or decline a request for friendship. I think it would be helpful to have a message from someone who wants to be included in your friends list, explaining why they have selected you.
What do you think? What reasons do you have for selecting your friends here?

Well I don't invite, I just wait for an invite. Then I go and check out their profile. I see how many friends they have. Too many and I know they can't keep up with everyone, so I don't except them. Then I check their post history. If they have never posted on one of mine discussions, then I won't except them.
I don't want too many friends I can't keep up with their posts, so I have to be selective. IMO it's a favor for a favor thing. As their friend I promise to check their posts out everyday and in return they do the same. So they also have to have topics of my interests as well. I know others don't care and will take who ever.
SO..in short, they can't have too many Mylot friends, they must have posted to one of my discussions before the invite and their posted topics have to be interesting to me.
Yep I am a Mylot snob, but I all of my friends have my loyalty.

I think you are fantastic to have that policy. What I have found different on myLot compared to other forums is that I have actually made some good friends here and I do try to support their posts.
I did accept friends in the past but have found that our interests are just not the same and I was chosen by them, well I'm not sure why I was chosen and perhaps I shouldn't have been so quick to accept. I'm putting my neck out here saying that.
But I agree, too many friends and I can't honor them. Not good.

I accept everybody who requests to be my friend, as I do not think it is polite to refuse. However, if I find that I get spam mail in pms, or requests for money in chain mail (it has happend) then I delete them. I personally find it helpful to have lots of friends as I will receive an email when they have posted a discussion and I will try to respond to these, first before searching for other topics.
