Smallville Question - Why Did Pete Leave the Show??

Does anyone know why Pete left in Season 3? I saw the episode where he left, but why did he leave the show? I am a subscriber to www.in2streams.com and have been watching every single Smallville episode. I am now in Season 4. I kinda liked Pete. He seemed to be the only true friend Clark had. What do you think? Short Andwers will get a negative Rating!
