I currently run MS Office 2003. I don't plan on updating to 2007 any time soon until it becomes necessary. I heard the new one does not allow you to save files in older formats which means to open an Office 2007 document you are going to Office 2007.

Not true, you can save files in a new improved format with Office 2007 (XML) which is supposed to be a new open source format, you can save in older formats if you choose, or even convert into older formats.
And even if you have Office 2003 you can still open office 2007 format files with a simple download. If you try to open a new file it will immediately prompt you to update, just hit 'yes' and it will open the file for you.

I am currently using Microsoft Office 2003. I still haven't tried upgrading it yet. I think I'll do the upgrade in about a week. =)

I went to the CES in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago and took a look at the New Office 2007 along with windows vista. The new updated interface for office is very nice. It's set up so that advanced features are much more accesible and understandable.
You don't really NEED it but, just like many updates and upgrades, but they are nice to have.
