i have always been striken and dumbfounded by the fact that most employees who get to the top are the bosses' pets. Is this really the trend today? That even socializing well compensates for incompetence?

I think alot of promotions are all about who you know and just a little about what you know... if you are friends with the boss and he knows your face and work ethic he may give you the job before someone else who just looks good on paper... maybe this is considered being a bosses pet, but maybe that person is just trying to network...

I agree. It is dependent on who you know. It is just saddening to see that these people are destroying the quality of work and output that shuold be produced.

yes i agree that most of those who get promoted are pets of their own bosses. that's been the trend for a long time. the "sip-sips" (you know this cause your a filipino)always make it ahead than the others. and the so called connection thing. the one who is closely connected with the boss gets the high rank. sad thing but reality bites!!

Yes it is the trend nowadays. Have you tried to be one of the pets before? I have not. I always stick to my personal beliefs. I do not want to compromise it just because I want to get promoted. :)

Socializing is also the key role for getting to the top. But what's important is you do your job well. My aunt told me that inorder to keep up in the business world you must know who your connections are. I know this is not so nice to hear but my cousin who is apt for promotions were not given her promotions because she was not that closed to her manager. Two promotions were pass her way because she didnt know how to socialized with her boss, even if your capable if you don't know how to socialized then there is a lot of chance that you can never get your promotions.

Socializing is now a part of one's promotion. I just cannot imagine how quality performance can be compromised by connections.
