Dogs and cats have very different attitudes, habits and needs. For unwavering love, loyalty and protection, go for a dog. But they require a lot of attention and training. they need to be watched constantly, and must be taken regularly for walk. On the other hand, cats are quite independent and do not require much attention more than regular feeding and litter box cleaning. Its up to you, if you look for a loyal, loving pet and trustworthy companion, choose a dog. if youre up to a more quite and low maintenance one, choose a cat. ΓΌ

any one would be fine, as long as you know how to train it and how to take good care of your pet, afterall they are living beings, so they need love and affection amongst other things,,,,,,so keep this in mind when you decide which to get......

Well i prefer dogs. Check out your local animal shelter, and discuss your situation to a volunteer or animal care technician.
Theres many things to consider:
-let them know youre renting a small room
-how many hours you're home, how often you work, etc.
-financial commitment:food, vet care, grooming, etc.
They will help you choose which dog or cat fits your lifestyle, and then you can just pick one of those.

Due to the small quarters, I would definately suggest a cat. You're living alone, and cats are far more independant; they won't tear up the room while you're at work, school, or wherever. They don't smell (contrary to a previous answer -- if you just empty the litter regularly and/or use a litter that absorbs odors, they don't smell a bit, UNLIKE dogs) and they're simple to train; won't use the bathroom on your carpet when you're late coming home. They're calmer and won't keep you awake half the night when you can't put them in a different room. They are independent yet usually highly affectionate; a great companion that doesn't demand much in return except clean litter, food, shelter, and love.
I like dogs and cats equally, and if you had plenty of room my suggestion would probably be a dog -- but due to the tight quarters, a cat would definately be better.

i prefer that you own a dog because cats are much sensitive and require lot more care

a dog requires more looking after and love and affection but the love a dog gives you is more than a cat. cats are basically cold creatures and dont show you much affection. a dog if you love him treats you like a god.so i think a dog is a better option any day. only american spitz and pomerarians are not a good choice. they are slightly neurotic.

I usually would suggest a dog when asked this question. But in situation, i guess that I would suggest a cat, or a small dog I supose. Just because it sounds like your space is limited. Cats tend to need a smaller space Of course smaller dogs need just a small space and they are usully more then happy to be wherever you are. Good luck on your new pet! :)

go for dogs. a toy dog is better, so cute, just put it in a cage.

I am a dog lover mostly but I like cats too, I think that for your situation a small dog would be best. I think that cats smell bad becouse of there litter box and in a small room that would not turn out the best. A dog would be better becouse being a girl it would be nice to hear a bark before someone comes into your apartment. Also the they are much more personal than cats. small dags are also very cute and i know girls like that=)
