Does your community have potlucks?

My community has a potluck dinner every month at the community center...everyone brings a dish, several people take turns helping in the kitchen, and there's a local band that comes in and provides music for free for several hours (well, we DO feed them, that's their payment)..in the past we have had an auction for a community member whose kennels burned (it is their only source of income), and have had auctions and yard sales to make repairs to the center (it is actually a one room school house that's now over 100 years old!), etc. It's a good way for people to get to know each other and have fun. Do you have anything like that in your area?
