Personal Responsibility

I have noticed that our culture is moving farther away from taking responsibility for ones actions. We have moved into an era of blame. It seems that everywhere I go, I see people blaming others for their own mistakes. I am interested to know what the reason for this laziness is? Is it selfishness, greed, ignorance, society, government, or what?
It is odd to me that those who don't take responsibility for themselves end up having to work harder at not working. It takes more effort to weasel ones way out of something or lie about it than it does to tell the truth and move on with your life.
I am just struggling to comprehend this aspect of humanity.
Can anyone give me different points of view on this?

Most of this laziness you see is the result of people being able to hide behind god, instead of thinking about being human first.
If society didn't have the crutch of religion to absolve peopile of their cruelties, then you would see more perosnal responsibility rise to the surface. There would be no way for them to justify their practices of hatred and cruelty and peple having to actually think before the take any action, or avoid any action.
