Is PAYPAL safe???!

Guys, I need your help on this one. I know a lot of you here are using paypal. I'm just new here and I'm planning to use paypal as well. The thing is, I don't have a credit card so I'm going to borrow my gf's creditcard just for this transaction. Of course she will be the one who will sign up on paypal and all the details will remain to her. But my gf is hesitant on how paypal works. I mean once you signed up and register your credit card, paypal can access your bank account right? My girlfriend is worried on that one. She wants me to assure her that her money on her bank account will be safe but I cannot do that since I myself have no knowledge about paypal. So I'm asking for help to all paypal users out there to tell me how really paypal works. Thanks! By the way, we are from the Philippines and they said that paypal does not work here. But I saw in the list of countries in paypal website that Phil is included. Do you think it's worth the try? I am not going to withdraw the money once I will get my paycheck from paypal. I am going to buy stuff online that uses paypal. Do you think it will work that way even if I'm not sure that paypal is working here in the Phil? Thanks! I hope you guys can help me.
