Hahahahaha why not!!! If Microsoft & Red Hat can do it why can't you do it? Just a catch here though. It's not that easy as you design a web page or something. It takes a lot of time & effort to build an OS. Not just that, it takes a lot of hardware & software skills too. Remember your OS needs to talk the language of the computer & also of the people.

It's possible, but quite difficult. I once wanted to write an operating system for myself, and still do, but found out that it was harder than just coming up with the idea. There's a lot of work that goes into making an operating system, which is why there aren't too many really popular ones out there. But possible? Definitely.
