Religious Icons

Historically, much Christian worship has centered around the use of icons, symbolizing various saints and others of importance in the religion. Images may be of Jesus Christ, The Virgin Mary, or one of many saints. Many of these images are primitive, and others are great works of art. Do icons play a role in your own beliefs? Do you have favorite icons? If so, which ones. For those of you who are not especially religious, do you have an appreciation for artworks inspired by religion? What non-Christian religions focus on important images and in what way?
