I love fishing for catfish. What we do for bait is use what we catch. An example would be to put a worm on a hook & toss it close to shore to catch a small fish 6 inches or less.
We then use the fish caught usually blue gills as bait. This is how we catch the big ones. You don't catch little catfish with 6 inch bait fish.
Liver works but doesn't get the big ones.

Worms always did wonders for me. Though, on those days when they are not working attractively enough I always go for some minor seafood pieces that are not eatable, though I can't name them now in english.

Try this. Get some nylon stockings, then mix up some white bread, syrup, and corn into a putty-like consistency, roll a marble sized amount into a ball, put this into the toe of a stocking, tie it off as tightly as possible, cutting the tag end as close to the knot as possible. This is a bait ball for catfish. The reason for the stocking is to keep it together while allowing the scent to pass through into the water. To top it off, before casting spray the bait with wd-40. I kid you not! wd-40 is fish oil based, this works very well with artificial lures for bass also.
